人造真珠の歴史は、明治末期、フランス製品を入手しその研究をしたことに始まるといわれています。「Ｉ Pearl」の愛称で親しまれている人造真珠は、現在も独特で高度な技術により生産されており、市内には国内の人造真珠生産業者の7割が集中しています。

Imitation pearls are said to trace back to the researches of French products obtained in the late era of Meiji. Imitation pearls popular with the nickname of “I Pearl” are now produced with unique and high standards of technology, and 70 percent of domestic artificial pearl producers are within the city.

和泉市では、古くから細工加工に適した軟質ガラスを用いたガラス工芸が発達しており、ガラスの棒素地の先端を火力で溶かし、手加工によって動物や船、馬車等の置物類が作られています。長年の経験により研ぎ澄まされた感覚から作り出された作品は希少価値が高く、多くの愛好家の支持を得ています。

Artistic glass handicraft using soft glass suitable for elaborate workmanship has developed in Izumi city from ancient times. Glass is manufactured into ornaments like animals, ships, coaches, etc. by melting glass bars with flames and working them with hands. Works created through well-sharpened senses with long years of experience have high rarity value and gained support from many devotees.

泉州産の綿スフ織物の歴史は古く、室町時代に綿の栽培をおこない白木綿を製織したのが始まりとされています。江戸時代には「和泉木綿」の名で広く日本国中に知れわたり、国内の中心的な綿業地帯を形成するに至りました。現在も多岐多様な品種が製織されています。

Senshu-produced cotton staple-fiber textile has a long tradition, starting with the production of plain-wood cotton cultivated in the era of Muromachi. In the era of Edo, the product was widely known throughout Japan under the name of “Izumi Cotton,” coming to form a central cotton-producing area in the country. A wide variety of cotton products are now being produced.

和泉の国の硝子玉の由来は、奈良時代にさかのぼり、泉州玉・さかとんぼと呼ばれ昔から有名でした。明治初期にはガラス玉の製造技術が確立していたとの記述があり、ガラス玉の製造地として発展しています。

Glass beads of Izumi have been famous as “Senshu Beads” or “Inverted Dragonfly” since the era of Nara. Some writings say that the process technology for glass beads was established in the early period of Meiji era, and Izumi has been developing as a place for producing glass beads.

和泉の花卉栽培の歴史は古く、今から約800年前に、東大寺の再建に尽力した俊乗坊重源が 宋(今の中国)から水仙の球根を持って帰り、桑原に栽培方法を伝えたのが、この地での花卉栽培の始まりといわれています。現在では、フリージア、ケイトウ、トルコギキョウなどを栽培しています。

Izumi district has an approximately 800 years of history for flower culture, which is said to start with Jugen Shunjobo who had endeavored to reconstruct Todaiji Temple returning with daffodil bulbs from Sung, old China and imparting the method of cultivating in mulberry fields. Freesias, cockscombs, Turkish bellflowers, etc. are presently grown.

南部の丘陵地区で主に栽培され、大阪府内最大の産地として知られています。近年では高品質みかんを生産するため、マルチ栽培(太陽の光を反射するマルチシートを地面に敷く栽培方法)を導入することで、太陽の光を充分取り入れた、糖度と酸味のバランスのよい味わい深さが好評なみかん栽培が行われています。

Oranges are grown mainly in hill areas in the southern part of Izumi, which is known as the largest orange-producing district in Osaka prefecture. In recent years, Multi-Growing (spreading sheets that reflect sun light on the ground) is introduced to produce high-quality oranges. Thus, oranges are fully ripened with ample sun light retained and favorably reputed for their well-balanced taste of sugar and acidity.

関西最大級の大型ハウスに約46,000株のいちごを栽培しています。都市近郊の立地条件を活かし、大粒で糖度の高い完熟いちごとして広く人気があります。また、かがまなくてもいちごの摘み取りができる高設栽培がされており、足場も良く、服も汚さずに摘み取りができるのが好評です。

Approximately 46,000 plants of strawberry are grown in Kansai's largest vinyl plastic hothouses. Utilizing suburban location conditions, the strawberries are widely popular as oversized, fully ripened ones with high sugar content. Growing strawberries in high-raised platforms without the need for bending down to pick them up is introduced, which enjoys a favorable reception for easy pickup with sure foothold and without soiling your clothes.
